Recent efforts include partnering with the Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network (RMIAN), a Colorado Legal Assistance Organization, providing pro bono services to those experiencing immigration-related legal issues.

SOC works to address the needs of children and young people flagged by RMIAN Advocates, including paying fees and expenses. We help individuals achieve legal status and live safe, productive lives, free from the persecution they've fled.

SOC has paid out over $15,000 in the last 4 years in partnership with RMIAN.

We truly cannot thank you enough for the assistance you have provided to children and families in the past few months. You came to us at just the right time as the administration has made it more difficult to obtain waivers for filing fees. So many of our clients were reaching desperation due to their inability to afford fees and costs that determine whether they can seek lawful status and safety in the U.S. We are immensely grateful for your support and your willingness to lend a hand when our clients have needed it most. Children’s Program Attorney, RMIAN

“L” is an 18-year-old, originally from Indonesia. He’s been in Colorado for most of his life. He was placed in foster care, where he is thriving. He was eligible to apply for citizenship, but Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network (RMIAN)’s request for a fee waiver of the $725 filing fee was denied. He and his foster family were truly unable to pay the fee. When the Attorney from RMIAN’s Children’s Program called “L”and his foster parents to tell them that Supporters of Children would pay the document filing fee, they were overjoyed and his foster mom was in tears on the phone.

“L” had an appointment the following month to do his biometrics, the next step in the naturalization process, and was told that he’d receive a naturalization interview within six months. He was studiously reading through his Civics Lessons booklet before his family even left the parking lot.

Thank you so much. Our hearts are huge, but we simply don’t have the finances to do everything we want to do for him. The only thing standing in the way of “L” becoming a U.S. citizen was a $725 fee. Your support quite literally changed his life. Thank you for this incredible support! He asked me more than once today, ‘Why would someone help me when I am a nobody? It is such a large amount of money to give to help a stranger.’ We all know “L” is not a ‘nobody’ and is worthy of our efforts. He has a tender heart for the underprivileged, and the hope the donor has given him will one day be passed on to others.“L”’s Foster Mom
Thanks very much to Supporters of Children for helping “L” take this next crucial step to becoming a U.S. citizen!RMIAN’s Children’s Program

“J” urgently required a civil surgeon medical exam for her residency (“green card”) application which was due in September, 2018. The price for her required medical exam was $370.00. RMIAN’s Children’s Program helped “J” apply for a visa. “J” was now eligible to apply for her lawful permanent residency or “green card” but required a civil surgeon’s medical exam to complete her application. “J” also recently gave birth to her first child, a daughter, which created additional economic challenges for the family.

I wish I truly could express myself using my words but this excitement and happiness I’m feeling inside can’t be explained. I’m just truly lucky for this opportunity, this chance that many people are fighting/ wanting to be where I am. I want to thank all those who supported me and myself for getting it through. I can now achieve better and bigger goals for myself, a better future for me and my daughter!”“J”, Age 20

In 2005, Supporters of Children paid $1800 to have custom wheelchair made and delivered to the family of a young girl whose whole life had been spent going from one surgery to another and who was in desperate need of additional treatment for a life threatening, progressive scoliosis. The Infantile Scoliosis Outreach Program facilitated getting a medical record summary produced by Lynx Collaborative Care to compel the specialists in Texas to perform the very successful surgery.

The Lynx documentation allowed the doctors to re-assess our daughter for acceptance… her documentation had become overwhelming. Secondly, Lynx corresponded with the specialist who was building our daughter’s traction walker. They made the travel arrangements and paid up front so the orthopedic specialist could personally deliver the walker to our home in Kansas! The walker was exactly what she needed. She was able to participate in more school activities and felt more like the other kids. The walker also helped her maintain strength in her leg muscles.Mother of young girl with severe infantile scoliosis

Camp To Belong was able to use contributions from Supporters of Children to provide transportation, lodging, meals and activities at a summer camp that literally brought siblings who have never met, together.

There are angels out there, and there’s no doubt the friends at Supporters of Children are among them. We applaud your efforts on behalf of all children in the community. Thanks from the bottom of our hearts. We may be the little kids on the block, but you have shown our gigantic message is important. Executive Director of Camp To Belong

During the holiday season, Angels Unaware used donations from Supporters of Children to purchase 62 movie passes and King Soopers gift certificates so that families could spend quality time together and have food for Christmas dinner.

You saved Christmas for many of our special families. The families are ever so grateful for your giving spirit.Letter from Angels Unaware

In 1999, SOC bought $2,200 worth of computer, printer, scanner and digital camera equipment and $11,000 worth of recording equipment for The Spot, an inner city drop-in center for youth in Denver.

The digital cameras get used for producing their ownCD ROM portfolios to help them get jobs or to go on to college. They also document the kids who get their GEDs. And they download the digital pictures and use Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to put together covers for the original CDs the kids are making themselves at The Spot. The kids are able to record their CD master in-house, free of charge. It is literally keeping the kids off the streets.Matt Bobby, Art & Computer Coordinator for The Spot

$5,700 was sent to Voices For Children to provide trained, volunteer advocates to work on behalf of neglected young children in Boulder County.

Your support of Voices For Children is much appreciated. It makes us work twice as hard when groups like Supporters of Children show their faith in us. Six abused and neglected children will receive Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) services this year (1999) because of SOC’s generosity: • two brothers, ages 4 and 7, who were physically abused and are in foster care • two sisters and a brother, ages 2 months, 18 months, and three years who were incurring physical neglect • one 10 month old who has been identified as non-organic failure to thriveMarsha Caplan, Executive Director of Voices For Children

Shaka’s Place is a multimedia technology wonderland developed to give children and youth the opportunity to learn everything from basic computer skills to professional multi-media applications, working their way up to producing, directing, or performing in their own projects in the production studios. These skills help give youth the tools they need to develop positive self-esteem, thereby helping prevent teen suicide and encourage positive mental health.

I thank you for the contribution of $5,365 for the technology equipment for Shaka’s Place, Youth Technology Center. US WEST has adopted our project and has acted as a consultant.Director, Business & Finance, Marianne Franklin 0f The Shaka Franklin Foundation for Youth

Supporters of Children purchased a keyboard and amp for a talented young high school music student in 2004.

I know that developing your gifts at an early age becomes more relevant the older you get. It makes a big difference in the decisions and directions you choose to take as an adult. I think the positive reinforcement and vote of confidence this gift represents will help him stay motivated and develop his potential in this area. Thank you so much!Mother of 14 year old music student

Gates Camp is run by Metro Denver’s Boys & Girls Clubs. Supporters of Children sponsored two cabins for a week in 1999, giving inner-city Denver kids an experience in nature.

The camp… gives these kids a chance to view the world from a completely new perspective – and learn something about themselves in the process. Your generosity is providing a meaningful and magical experience that they will not soon forget.President, John Arigoni of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver

Supporters of Children gave computer software and also sponsored the Holiday Fair for the Gathering Place, which aids children and their mothers who are affected by homelessness and poverty.

This year over 300 women and children attended the best party yet. We had all the same wonderful festivities this year – food, crafts, gifts, music, and Santa! But this year, something very special happened. The DJ started people dancing, and the next thing you know, women children, staff and volunteers of all ages, races and means, were dancing and laughing together. Breathless and smiling, people were hugging oner another and proclaiming in joy that this was the best party of the season! The Holiday Fair os more than a festive event though, it is the opportunity to be amongst friends and family in a safe environment for a few hours. This afternoon of laughter, love, friendship and family embodies the true spirit of the holidays and creates a memory for all involved. Your generous donation of $5000 for the Holiday Fair for the 4th year in a row continues to be such a blessing.Director of Volunteers, Kelli Mlinarik of The Gathering Place

Supporters of Children provided a Duet bicycle (wheelchair bicycle) to a little boy who passed away. The bike was handed down to a 13 year old girl with multiple disabilities including limited gross motor skills.

We now enjoy bike rides with Gwenie leading the way! We have gone on many adventures that were not possible before.Gwen’s parents

Babies and their parents the Anchor Center for Blind Children were able to enjoy bonded time together through the glider rocker Supporters of Children purchased and delivered in 1996.

We are all thrilled with the new glider rocker with ottoman that was delivered to the Center earlier this week. It is the perfect model and color! The rocker will be enjoyed especially by families of infants that come to the Center.Director of Development, Cheryl Dutton and Dona Kelley, President of the Board of Directors of Anchor Center for Blind Children
